The Beatles Revolution — Editing the White Album

revolutionA few friends got into a discussion of the Beatles (The White Album) which led me to wonder. What if the White Album was released instead as a typical length album of the time –? A single album with less than 25 minutes per side?

Here’s how I’d mix the 1968 release of The Beatles: Revolution

Side One:
Back in the U.S.S.R.
Dear Prudence
Hey Jude
Don’t Pass Me By
I Will
While My Guitar Gently Weeps

Side Two:
Revolution
Blackbird
Sexy Sadie
Julia
I’m So Tired
Happiness Is a Warm Gun
Helter Skelter

Side one is more McCartney while Side Two is more Lennon. One is more contemplative and rocker while Two is combative, edgier. I’d put the first single as a double Side-A “Revolution” and “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” followed by “Hey Jude/Blackbird.”
